Fondest Camp Glengarra memory? I could never pick just one. I love every moment I am at Camp for any reason. My fondest memories are probably of all my canoe trips as both a camper and a staff.

I am glad that this site is up and running and I am hoping that it will be a way to communicate and keep everyone up to speed on what is going on with Camp Glengarra. All I will say for now is that if you know a girl who is eligible to attend Camp this summer, PLEASE encourage her to attend. It is critical that there is a significant increase in Camp attendance this summer. I want everyone reading this to take a moment of silence for our poor Wishing Tree. I was helping conduct an outdoor training at Camp this spring and when Ellen E. and I saw what used to be the Wishing Tree (now something like a wishing J) while giving a tour of camp - we cried. It was the saddest thing - it was like losing a really, really close life-long friend. I'm still angry at NiMo for hacking it off so low that your can't walk through it anymore. Heartless and thoughtless if you ask me!

part 2... We, as former staff, must stress to the council, to the executive director and the board just how important camp is to everyone whose life it has touched. I truly believe that the person each of us has grown into today would not be the same if not for the experiences we had during our time spent at Camp Glengarra. If that is true for us, just imagine the growth in the developing girls whose lives we have touched over the years that we spent at camp! Please pass this email on to any and all former staff that you are in contact with in hopes of that by getting the word out that we as a whole camp family can combine our ideas and thoughts and keep the camp tradition alive for 40 more years! I also believe that if the board sees the outpouring of love that we all have for camp that this would send great message to them. PLEASE take the time to write a letter or email to Karen or myself that shows just how you were touched by your experience at camp working with the girls and how you saw growth in the girls you worked with. Beep...This is a letter that I send out to all former camp stuff that I have worked with over the past 7 summers. BUT I think we need to get the word out to an even broader audience and so I wanted to send it to you. If you would please post it and send out the word that camp is in danger of not just closing BUT of being sold forever I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks for your help! ~Cricket PS...I am sending it in a couple of parts due to the size of it! ~Over past three summers, I have been the asst. camp director and so I have been working very closely with Karen (Spinnaker) over the years. This past weekend, she informed me that IF the camper numbers do not go up significantly for the 2006 summer, there would be NO MORE Camp Glengarra. The executive director and board are currently looking into selling the property. They are having it appraised as soon as possible. If the 2006 summer season does not have a significant improvement then there will be NO more Girl Scout camp for the girls the council serves. We CANNOT allow this to happen. I put it to you very simply. This CANNOT happen.

Great friends, silly campers, new experiences, the egg chick and the cork army, fifi the cat who will take over the world, intro songs, the wishing tree, G.I. rescues, "poison ivy" scares, the big blue (new red) truck, adventures like no others, the von camp family fireplace singers, fri BBQ, cookouts, the earthball, homesickness, water fights, "blair witch", tie dye & candles, dining hall, latrines, killing "spiders" in the tents, campers falling out of tents, the cheddar cheese chicks and their revenge, flag ceremony, all camp, giant candyland in the field, trips to the food bank for bread and anything that the girls would eat, ropes course, facing new challenges, never a dull moment, quotes that last a lifetime = LASTING MEMORIES! Camp is incredibley special to anyone who has spent any time there!!! Here's to it being there the girls for another 40 years! :)

Wow, this site is incredible. Such amazing memories... I can't wait to dig up some old pictures and post them here! I was a camper from the age of 9, and went on to be a backpacker and then a staff member. This place, and the people I met because of it, really changed my life. Hi Beep- I'm still in Oregon, just another city. I am working with the state as an Adult Protective services Program Coordinator where I teach classes on investigating abuse and nelgect of seniors and people with physical disabilites, among other things.
